Pitcher Shane Bieber will return to the Cleveland Guardians on a one-year, $14 million pact.
He also holds an option for the year 2026 for an amount of $16 million according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Bieber had a promising start to the campaign, not allowing any earned runs in two games, but later required Tommy John surgery. He had 20 strikeouts in 12 innings under his belt.
Passan says the Guardians expect to see the pitcher on the mound midway through next season.
In 2020, Bieber stood out with a 1.60 ERA in 77.1 innings.
He was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft by Cleveland.
Since the start of his career, Bieber has accumulated a record of 62-32 and a 3.22 ERA in 134 starts.
Holmes leaves Yankees for Mets
Pitcher Clay Holmes has signed a three-year contract, worth US$38 million, with the New York Mets, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to theAssociated Press.
Holmes will be able to receive $13 million during the first two campaigns and $12 million in 2027. The 31-year-old right-hander will, however, have the option to become a free agent after the 2026 season.
Holmes has become a premier reliever with the New York Yankees, after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in July 2021.
However, he had some problems this season with his control and Luke Weaver took his place to end the games in the ninth inning.
Holmes finished the campaign with a 3-5 record, a 3.14 ERA and 30 saves in 67 appearances on the mound. He led major league baseball in sabotages, with 13.
