Doctor Marcelo and Mister Bielsa.
Hernán Crespo’s story with the Argentine selection has been anything but smooth sailing. The attacker almost disappeared from radar between 2004 and 2005 due to tumultuous relationship with Marcelo Bielsa. He explained it at length during an interview with Juan Pablo Varsky. “He didn’t respect mehe blurted out before returning to his treatment during the month of June 2004 when the camel overflowed. We go to the locker room, I sit down. He comes to talk to me, I’m not going to repeat what he said. He disrespects me. I looked at him, he looked at me, he bowed his head and left. I went straight to the showers, screaming… I couldn’t take this situation anymore. »
So Crespo announces to his coach that he is slamming the door: « All this disrespect over the years, it’s so bad that I’m going to leave aside the biggest thing that could have happened to me in my life, playing for the national team. I will never return to the national team again as long as you are here. I will not tolerate disrespect. » Crespo eventually returned to the team, notably taking part in the 2006 World Cupunder the orders of José Pékerman.
