Through the NHL: Sharks recall Askarov

The San Jose Sharks have recalled goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from their AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda.

The 22-year-old prospect had only two starts under his belt this season before heading to the American League.

Acquired from the Nashville Predators last August for a first-round draft pick and other players, Askarov is 1-0-1 with a .927 save percentage this fall.

back with the Wings

After an absence of a few weeks, goalkeeper Alex Lyon is back in the Detroit Red Wings lineup.

The team confirmed everything on Wednesday on social media.

The 32-year-old veteran has been sidelined since Nov. 25 with a lower-body injury. Lyon, since the start of the season, has a goals average of 2.74 with a record of 4-4-0.

Another Wings goaltender, Cam Talbot, gets closer to a return while skating with his teammates this morning. However, no announcement has been made by the organization.

Kampf ready to return

The Toronto Maple Leafs removed center David Kampf from the long-term injured reserve list on Wednesday and he is expected to return to action against the Dallas Stars.

The Maple Leafs freed up a roster spot for Kampf on Tuesday by trading Fraser Minten to the Toronto Marlies of the American League.

Kampf, who had been sidelined since November 16, pivoted the fourth line completed by Steven Lorentz and Ryan Reaves on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old forward has three assists in 18 games this season.

Jet Greaves loaned to AHL

The Columbus Blue Jackets have loaned Jet Greaves to the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL.

The 23-year-old goaltender has played three games this season with the Jackets. He has a 3.30 GAA with a record of 0-1-2.

The net in Ersson

Samuel Ersson will be the starting goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.

The 25-year-old goalie is 6-4-2 this season with a 2.87 GAA and .891 save percentage.

Panthers captain is a questionable case

The presence of Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov against the Minnesota Wild will be decided just before the game.

He did not play Monday in Edmonton due to illness.

Coach Paul Maurice also confirmed that Sergei Bobrovsky will be in net this evening while forward Sam Bennett will not play because he is ill.

Four players on waivers

Three defensemen were placed on waivers on Wednesday, Dylan Coghlan (Jets), Marc Del Gaizo (Predators) and Grant Hutton (Islanders).

The Avalanche also placed forward Tye Felhaber on waivers. The latter made his NHL debut on December 16 against the Vancouver Canucks in a 3-2 loss, at the age of 26. He has 8 goals and 13 points in 23 games with the Eagles in the American League.
