For young hockey players, playing in American colleges is a dream before reaching the NHL.

With the new regulations that allow players to play with one of the three major leagues in Canada (OHL, QMJHL and WHL) without giving up their NCAA eligibility, many players are deciding to take this path.

Moreover, since the establishment, around thirty players have started their journey in the CHL. And let’s say that the introduction of such a regulation makes the major American colleges hungry. In fact, they take the opportunity to spy on the super stars currently playing in Canada. Guys like Gavin McKenna (WHL), Michael Misa and Porter Martone (OHL) could leave for the NCAA next year.

In the case of Martone and Misa, it’s much less certain, as both are eligible for the upcoming NHL draft.

Presumably, the two forwards will emerge in the top-5 and could play in the NHL from 2025-2026. But for McKenna, he is the consensus first pick in the 2026 draft so far. And with his 55 points in 27 games at 16 (!), he is likely to stay there.

The young man who plays with the Medicine Hat Tigers is closely scrutinized by the University of Michigan, Michael Hage’s school. Could the two young forwards play together next year? Possible. Although Hage could make the jump directly to Quebec next year, perhaps even at the end of his university season, in March-April.

The Wolverines also reportedly have their eyes on Porter Martone, who is expected to be drafted in the top-3 in the upcoming draft. If all these beautiful people continue their junior training and decide not to make the professional jump, Michigan could have a whole club.

Give them top honors immediately!

As for Misa, the Boston University Terriers, Lane Hutson’s former club, are ones to watch in this matter.

In short, a lot of movement to come between the Canadian junior leagues and the NCAA.

– A 10th goal for him this season.
