In accordance with the new approach to the YOG sports program completed in June 2024, it has been decided to maintain the official participation of the 35 International Federations (IFs) in Dakar 2026. 25 sports will appear on the competition program and 10 will be part of the program mobilization. The Dakar 2026 edition will present a discipline in each of the 25 sports on the competition program: athletics, aquatic sports (swimming), archery, badminton, baseball 5, basketball 3×3, boxing, breaking, cycling (road cycling ), equestrian sports (show jumping), fencing, football (futsal), gymnastics (artistic), handball (beach handball), judo, rowing (rowing sea), rugby (rugby sevens), sailing, skateboarding (skateboard street), table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball (beach volleyball), wrestling (beach wrestling) and wushu.
In total, the Games will feature 151 events – compared to 241 for the YOG Buenos Aires 2018 – split equally between male and female athletes with 72 events for each, plus seven mixed events. For the first time in the history of the Summer YOG, there will be complete gender equality, not only in the overall quota of athletes, but also across all sports, disciplines and events.
The total quota for these Games has been set at 2,700 accreditations. This figure is in line with the IOC’s commitment to offering an adapted and effective program, while maintaining high-level competitions. It will allow the Games to adapt to the local context of Dakar, while ensuring a competitive platform for young athletes from around the world.
In addition, Dakar 2026 will offer a mobilization program that will highlight 10 sports: canoeing, golf, hockey, karate, modern pentathlon, shooting, sport climbing, surfing, tennis and weightlifting. These sports which will not be included in the competition program will however be able to distinguish themselves through interactive activities offered on site and on the various online Olympic platforms, which will ensure their promotion as full members of the YOG.
