Two Quebec forwards who have done quite a bit of work got a chance to showcase themselves in the National Hockey League on Monday. Justin Hryckowian and Nathan Légaré were recalled from the American League by the Dallas Stars and the New Jersey Devils respectively.
Hryckowian defied the odds. The Île-Bizard native only entered the NCAA at age 20 and was never drafted by an NHL team. After three seasons with Northeastern, he made his professional debut last year with the Texas Stars.
For Légaré, it must be said that we no longer believed in a recall. The former Laval Rocket only had three goals in 18 games with the Utica Comets this season.
At 23, he will play his first NHL game on Monday evening when the New Jersey Devils visit the Rangers, their New York rivals.
Pelletier too
Submitted on waivers and unclaimed before the start of the season, Quebec striker Jakob Pelletier is back in the National League.
The Calgary Flames recalled their 2019 first-round pick, 26th overall, on Monday.
Pelletier, 23, had 19 points, including three goals, in 20 games with the Calgary Wranglers in the American League this season.
