While the Canadiens are in the midst of a reconstruction that is beginning to seriously take shape, the next season will be the most important in the careers of several players in the organization. Lane Hutson is at the top of this list.

The 20-year-old defenseman signed his first professional contract on April 12 and after two seasons dominating the NCAA with Boston University, he is preparing to take his talent to the NHL with the Canadiens.

Difficult to predict if he will start the season in Montreal or Laval but one thing is certain, he seems ready to wreak havoc in the big league if we rely on his performances in the NCAA and the two games he played with the CH at the end of the season.

In order to give him as much rest as possible ahead of the longest season of his life so far, the Canadiens decided not to invite him to the team’s development camp. He will be at rookie camp but management wants him to rest fully this summer in order to arrive in top shape.

I forgot to mention this in my article yesterday, but Lane Hutson said he won’t be attending the Canadiens’ development camp this week. He was told not to. He’ll be at rookie camp, but the Canadiens want him to rest.

If we look at the defenders under contract with the CH, it is not impossible to envisage a brigade with the small offensive defender to start the season, but he will have to do well in camp because he is not the only one knocking on the door of the big club. David Reinbacher et Logan Mailloux are very close to being ready too.
