Released from his contract with the Golden State Warriors, veteran point guard Chris Paul (39 years old) will join the San Antonio Spurs of the phenomenon Victor Wembanyama, announced several American media outlets including ESPN, this Sunday.

At 39, Chris Paul has agreed with Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs for a one-year, $11 million contract (approximately 10.23 million euros), write Bleacher Report and ESPN in particular.

The Golden State Warriors, where Paul signed last summer, announced that they had released the player earlier today, which marks the start of free agency, an official period for certain negotiations and transfers.

Chris Paul, who will begin his 20th NBA season in the fall, will play for a 7th team after New Orleans, the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix and Golden State, with whom he was eliminated in the play-offs in spring. Having undergone surgery on his left hand after suffering a fracture in early January, he missed almost two months of competition.

CP3-Wemby, the association that makes you salivate

The third best passer in the history of the league (11,894 assists), never titled in the NBA, will put his experience to the service of a very young team.

Above all, the association of this excellent passer with Victor Wembanyama is mouth-watering, after a season where the French giant (2.24 m) sometimes had difficulty being found in good conditions by his teammates.

The San Antonio Spurs, 14th (out of 15) in the Western Conference this season and therefore absent from the play-offs for the 5th consecutive year, are in the midst of rebuilding around their French jewel, whom they drafted in first position in 2023, and with whom they hope to return to the top.

The Texan franchise had already added a leader to its squad by selecting young American Stephon Castle (19) in 4th position in the draft on Wednesday.
