The collision occurred on Monday, July 1st at around 6:30 a.m. on the Palavas-les-Flots road. Injured to varying degrees, all those involved were evacuated to the Lapeyronie hospital center and the Saint-Roch polyclinic.
A terrible accident involving a van, a private car and a pedestrian occurred this Monday July 1 around 6:30 a.m. on the Route de Palavas, near Montpellier, and left five people injured.
According to initial investigations carried out by the accident squad of the central police station, it all started with a heavily intoxicated pedestrian who was walking on the left-most lane of this dual carriageway and who suddenly positioned himself across the road, arms outstretched, to stop the oncoming van.
He avoids the pedestrian but is hit by a car
His driver then braked suddenly and swerved into the right lane to avoid him. A sudden maneuver which surprised the driver of a Golf arriving from behind and who was unable to avoid the truck.
If the driver of the van emerged unhurt, his front passenger, aged 68 and slightly injured in the head, was evacuated to the Lapeyronie hospital center. In the Golf, in which there were four people, the driver, aged 23, had a bleeding wound on his right forearm. He tested positive for alcohol.
Pedestrian trapped under vehicle
His 26-year-old rear passenger, who apparently had not worn her seat belt, suffered from neck pain and a slight head injury. The 21-year-old front passenger was slightly injured in the left foot and right tibia. As for the 28-year-old rear passenger, he was not injured but was shocked to say the least. All four were evacuated by ambulance from the fire brigade and the Smur 34.
As for the pedestrian, he was found trapped under the front of the Golf. Seriously injured, he suffered significant head trauma, severe spinal pain and had numerous bruises all over his body.
