Novak Djokovic well present at Wimbledon, will face a qualifier in the first round

Novak Djokovic, who had surgery on his right knee three weeks ago, is well in the Wimbledon table and will face the Czech Vit Kopriva (123rd in the world and from qualifying) in the first round, according to the draw made this Friday.

Seeded No. 2, the 37-year-old Serb will have in his half of the table notably Alexander Zverev et Hubert Hurkacz. At the top of the table, the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and his great rival Carlos Alcaraz (3rd), winner last year in the final against Djokoviccould face each other in the semi-finals.

Djokovicseeking an eighth trophy on the London turf to extend his record of Grand Slam titles to 25, was injured in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros early June and had to withdraw before his quarter. He was operated on in Paris on the right medial meniscus, but his participation in Wimbledon was very uncertain.

The latest images of his training on the grass, particularly against Sinner on Center Court this Thursday, with a soft knee pad and elbow pad, were however encouraging.

Another unexpected presence, that ofAndy Murray who had surgery for a cyst in his spine last week. His warrior’s mentality has once again taken over his body and the 37-year-old Scot will play well, one last time, in the Major on grass which he has won twice (2013, 2016).

He will face the Czech in the first round Tomas Machac (38th in the world). Having already played with a metal hip since 2019, he is expected to retire after the Paris Olympics this summer.
