Olivier Renard is preparing for his first transfer window as sports boss of RSC Anderlecht. This is a real challenge because to get reinforcements he will also have to sell players. A certain number of names already seem to meet this requirement.
At the end of October, Anderlecht decided to no longer work with CEO Jesper Fredberg. This decision is largely linked to the last summer transfer window. Fredberg did not achieve all of his goals. He was criticized in particular for not having raised enough money in sales, which also meant less funds for reinforcements.
Balancing transfer income
Because if the historic champion is gradually regaining its financial stability, there is no question of taking unnecessary risks. Renard’s mission is therefore clear. During the next transfer periods, he will also have to maintain the balance, that is to say sell enough to be able to attract reinforcements.
In the current core, there are already a few guys who could potentially fetch a nice sum. Star Mario Stroeykens, of course, but also the brand new Red Devil Killian Sardella. For now, the intention seems to be to keep the two young products on board until at least next summer. Francis Amuzu and Yari Verschaeren are also expected to stay in January.
Cash in and get rid of big contracts
On the other hand, other players could be cashed in January. This is the case of Anders Dreyer. He is having a disappointing season and can no longer count on the support of his compatriots Fredberg and Brian Riemer. If a suitable offer for the Dane comes soon, Renard is unlikely to ignore it.
Furthermore, it remains to be seen what will happen to Majeed Ashimeru. The Ghanaian has not been in good shape for weeks, so a structural solution must be found. We will also have to see if Renard succeeds where Fredberg failed: getting rid of Amadou Diawara before the end of his heavy contract.
Finally, the future of injury-prone Marco Kana remains uncertain. So there is work ahead for Renard.
