This year, Thomas ran the Tour of Italywhere he finished 3rd in the general classification, and will continue with the Tour in the role of lieutenant for Carlos Rodriguez et Egan Bernal. He may take over the leadership of his team depending on the racing circumstances, at 38 years old. “I don’t really think about it but this might be my last Tour, for now I’m just focused on the race and what I’m going to do. You know, it’s a childhood dream to be here.” said Thomas at a press conference.

“Pogacar is obviously the big favorite”

Geraint Thomas first addressed his team and the objectives: “I’m super excited to be with these guys. We sat on the bus to find out each other’s goals and I think they’re all on target. Obviously, it’s still a challenge, 4 good guys for the general ( editor’s note: Bernal, Rodriguez, Thomas and Pidcock), but the rest of the team is strong, all the guys can win a stage We come to achieve the best general classification, we are all going in the same direction. “We will have opportunities to play for stage victory but we have to see with the guys in the general classification.”

“The other teams are going to have more pressure than us, we’re not going to get in front and roll one by one. Obviously, “Pogi” is a bigger favourite than us, the same for Visma. I don’t think the pressure is on us, we’re not going to ride like Sky. The first stage is tough but I don’t think Pogacar can make up much time on Vingegaard, it’s not high mountains.” said Thomas.
