“This Villa embodies a flourishing era when the region enjoyed international renown as a vacation destination,” reads the sale notice on the Sotheby’s website.

The rest of the land at the rear (i.e. 287,620 sq. ft.) represents almost 70% of the total area of the site and is entirely wooded. “There is potentially the possibility of construction in this portion of land and this portion would also benefit from a view of the river,” we mention in the notice.

The sale of the residence has gone a little under the radar, its asking price was revised downwards recently. This was initially for $1,950,000 when it was put on sale on September 2, 2023.

Built in 1900, the sumptuous villa had as its first owner a man named Gordon McDougall. The residence was subsequently purchased by Paul and Jacqueline Desmarais in 1954, when it belonged to Léo Timmins, owner of Hollinger Mines. It served mainly as a vacation spot during the summer.
