Currently brilliant at PSV Eindhoven, Noa Lang once wore the colors of Club Brugge. Trained at Ajax, the Dutch winger joined the Pro League in 2021, where he quickly established himself as a key player. However, this transfer to Belgium was not done without difficulty, as his former Dutch youth coach, Erwin van de Looi, revealed to the media NOS.
A decision contested by the player
Noa Lang left Ajax for Club Brugge in the summer of 2021 for a fee of six million euros. Although he quickly became an idol at the Jan Breydel Stadium, the transfer initially unsettled him. Van de Looi explained that Lang had a bad experience with this episode.
A period of uncertainty for Lang
“Noa was devastated after his move to Club Brugge,” Van de Looi said. “He’s a very emotional boy. When he is happy, he is happy, and when he is sad, he is deeply affected. During an international break he wanted to go on loan, but Ajax sold him. It had a huge impact on him.”
Lang was not in the right frame of mind to represent the Dutch hopes at that time. “I also had to think about the interests of the team. That’s why I didn’t select him the next time,” added Van de Looi.
A success at Club Brugge and a new start
Despite these difficult beginnings, Lang has established himself as an indispensable element at Club Brugge. In 2023, he joined PSV for 12.5 million euros, marking one of the greatest stages of his career. After overcoming several injuries, he is shining again, which has allowed him to return to the Dutch national team in recent weeks.
