Tunisian coach accuses Morocco and Algeria of paying binational players

This is called throwing a stone into the pond! Kaïs Yaâkoubi, coach of the Tunisian national team, denounced the methods used by Morocco and Algeria to attract binational players. In statements relayed on November 19 by the Algerian media The Gazette du Fennec the interim coach affirmed that the Algerian and Moroccan federations paid binational players so that they chose to play under the colors of their country.

“Amazing things you can’t imagine”

“Why is the national team no longer performing well? You have to ask the right questions. Do you think Algeria and Morocco are bringing back binational players, like Gouiri for free? No, absolutely no”declared Kaïs Yaâkoubi.

“The neighboring country is going all out to afford players with dual nationality. I have already worked with a goalkeeper coach from the selection who made two World Cups and two CAN with the Algerian team. He told me incredible things that you can’t imagine what they do to attract these footballers”, he added.

Although he denounces the method, Kaïs Yaâkoubi nevertheless hopes that his federation will use the same strategy to attract first choice players in the future. Comments which shocked certain media in Algeria. “Not sure that this media release, to say the least failed, will pass without reaction. Yaâkoubi could even see his interim office cut short for these off-side remarks”wrote The Gazette du Fennec.
