CAN 2025 qualifiers-Morocco: for Guinea “nothing is settled yet”

A goal from Serhou Guirassy in the final moments of an intense match against the DRC allows Guinea to accumulate 9 points, thus occupying 2nd place in its group. Last Saturday, and at the final whistle, the happy Guinean supporters were exultant. This is particularly the case for Mohamed Bangoura who confides that he never lost hope throughout the match: “Honestly, I was confident. I knew we were going to win this match because we now have a real striker. And then, we have very good players».

Not all Guinean supporters were as optimistic as Mohamed Bangoura. Sports journalist Lamine Sylla, although pleasantly surprised, invites the team and the coach to resolve certain aspects that worry him: “Obviously, I was worried because the Syli game is not alive. Nothing punchy, either on the sides or in the middle. I always wanted to see the coach change his playing system. See the construction of the game, no rhythm. The opponent has plenty of time to block or intercept the ball. If Syli does not change this system and unfortunately we come across a more lively team, it will be difficult for us.»

Finally, facing the DRC, the solution came from the latest entrants, confides Ismaël Diallo: “I think the coach didn’t start certain players very early. This explains the delay in scoring the goal. For example, Aliou Badra Baldé had to return early, this is also the case for Cheikh Condé.»

Many observers today want to see Syli qualify for the next CAN planned in Morocco. And this necessarily requires a victory against Tanzania, recalls Mohamed Bangoura: “For the next match, I am convinced that we will beat Tanzania with a score of three goals to zero. It’s true that this Tanzanian team also beat Ethiopia, but we are going to win this last match. We have no choice, we have to win. And on paper, we are stronger».

Note that Guinea will play its last match on November 19 when it travels to Tanzania with the aim of winning in Dar es Salaam in what appears to be a final.
