Roman Josi (34 years old) reached the plateau of 700 personal points collected in the regular season of the NHL championship. The Bernese defender from Nashville did it on the night of Sunday to Monday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver where the Predators won 3-5 against the Canucks.
While playing his 928th match in the North American professional league, the former CP Berne junior needed two points to invite himself into the 700 club, a mark that seemed simply inaccessible to a Swiss player he 10 years ago.
On the ice of British Columbia, against his compatriot Pius Suter (28 years old), Roman Josi did it in 124 seconds.
32’17”: on the power play, he passes the 2-2 pass to Ontario forward Steven Stamkos.
34’21”: breaking, he leaves no chance to Finnish goalkeeper Kevin Lankinen. 2-3.
His record then includes 183 goals and 517 assists.
With his 700 points, the captain of the Tennessee team is naturally the best Swiss scorer in the history of the NHL. He precedes Winnipeg’s Grison winger Nino Niederreiter (32 years old, 455), Los Angeles’ St. Gallen winger Kevin Fiala (28 years old, 440) and Bernese retiree Mark Streit (434).
He is also the Swiss king of assists ahead of Streit (338) and Fiala (257).
And the guard is the fourth highest scorer among skaters holding a white cross passport behind Niederreiter (230), New Jersey Appenzell winger Timo Meier (28 years old, 198) and Fiala (183).
As he has a contract with a seasonal value of US$9.059 million valid until 2028, there is still time for him to reach other fabulous plateaus…
