It's not a big surprise. Crowned with his Olympic title, Antoine Dupont is in the race to be named the best rugby sevens player in the world, World Rugby announced on Monday, November 18. Several times replacing him during the Olympics, his contribution was decisive in winning gold, notably with an assist and two tries in the final against Fiji.
For his first season in the ranks of the French 7s team, Antoine Dupont had already participated in winning gold in the World Series final, a first in the history of the Blues. In this category, he is named alongside his teammate Aaron Grandidier and Irishman Terry Kennedy, already a winner in 2022. The names of the winners of the various distinctions will be announced on Sunday November 24 in Monaco.
Among the other categories, French scrum half Pauline Bourdon-Sansus is also named in the category of best XV player of the year. Two French tries are also part of the selections for the best men's and women's tries: that of Nolann Le Garrec during the victory against England at the Six Nations Tournament, who concluded an 80-meter action after a ball stolen into touch , and that of Marine Ménager in a test match against Canada after a quick throw.
