This is the case of the American Sepp Kuss, winner of the Tour of Spain 2023, as his team Visma Lease a Bike announced this Tuesday. “Sepp Kuss has not recovered sufficiently from covid and will not start the Tour de France. Bart Lemmen replaces him,” explains the Dutch team.

Gaudu affected but at the start

Brought to be the leader of the American team Lidl Trek, the Briton Tao Geoghegan Hart (winner of the Tour of Italy 2020), has also given up. “I thought that those days were long gone, but unfortunately, I was very ill,” says the man who was “positive for Covid for five days” from the Critérium du Dauphiné, where he was also caught in the massive fall of the 5th step. In the Lidl Trek team, the Italian Giulio Ciccone was also ill after the French race.

David Gaudu, scheduled to be the leader of the Groupama FDJ on the Grande Boucle, had to give up the French championships because he also tested positive for Covid. It is planned to start on June 29 with the French team.
