Paris police said 4,000 officers would be deployed to a France-Israel soccer match to provide security, a week after violence erupted in Amsterdam.
France and Israel play a UEFA Nations League match on Thursday which will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Paris police chief said 2,500 police officers would be deployed around the Stade de France, in addition to 1,500 others throughout Paris and on public transport.
Laurent Nuñez said an anti-terrorist security perimeter would be set up around the stadium and that police “would not tolerate any violence”.
Laurent Nuñez also indicated that the French organizers were in contact with the Israeli authorities and security forces in order to prepare for the match.
This decision comes after the violence which broke out on Thursday in Amsterdam following the Ajax-Maccabi Tel-Aviv match.
A video circulating online before the match showed a crowd of Israeli fans chanting anti-Arab slurs on their way to the stadium.
Subsequently, youths on scooters set out in search of Israeli supporters, punching and kicking them in attacks apparently inspired by calls on social media to attack the Jewish people. .
Five people were treated in hospital and dozens were arrested after the attacks, which were condemned as anti-Semitic by authorities in Amsterdam, Israel and across Europe.
On Sunday, Dutch police arrested several people for taking part in a protest in central Amsterdam that had been banned following the violence.
