Beaten by Real Sociedad (1-0) this Sunday during the 13th day of La Liga, FC Barcelona denounced the goal refused to Robert Lewandowski for an offside position. The Blaugrana club assures that the decision was taken after an error by the developer.
Without the injured Lamine Yamal, Barça suffered their second defeat of the season in the league this Sunday. On the road, the Catalan club lost (1-0) against Real Sociedad on the 13th day of La Liga, leaving Real Madrid back to six points with a match in hand. After this setback, the Blaugrana clan fumed over a decision that changed the outcome of the match.
Robert Lewandowski had thought to open the score in the 13th minute but his goal was disallowed by the video assistance for an offside position. This decision quickly became controversial due to what could be a big mistake by the revealer, who according to the Barcelonans, confused the foot of the Polish striker and that of his opponent Nayef Aguerd.
Pena calls for investigation
“It was definitely the wrong decision but we have to accept it,” lamented Barça coach Hansi Flick after the match. At the break, the technician tried to have an explanation on this subject. “The referee, it wasn’t his fault, to err is human but today it was a big mistake.”
“If there is an error so clear and so serious, let it be investigated,” said goalkeeper Inaki Pena. “The league will have to examine whether it’s Lewandowski’s foot or not,” commented Marc Casado. “It would be serious if they disallowed a goal that was actually legal. I didn’t see it live, but I heard about it. Sooner or later we will know if it was offside.”
Real Sociedad found the fault in this match thanks to a goal from Sheraldo Becker (33rd). After the international break, Barça will travel again, this time on November 23 to challenge Celta Vigo. On November 26, Flick’s men will host Brest in the Champions League.
