Carey Price signs letter honoring Shea Weber

What set Shea Weber apart? Beyond his shooting and his affection for double-checks in front of the net, it was his ability to understand his teammates that was his most important quality.

This is what Carey Price tells us in a letter paying tribute to his former teammate published Sunday on the National Hockey League website.

Weber will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Jeremy Roenick, among others.

“Weber was able to identify times when a teammate needed a tap on the shoulder and a kick in the behind. His specialty was knowing exactly what action was appropriate,” says Price.

Since Weber was shy and camera shy, fans never really got to know his personality.

“Webs was not stoic all the time,” Price said. “Behind that mirror cabinet there is a guy with a great sense of humor, always ready to bring the guys together for a good chat. It was another facet of his personality: he was a unifier.”

Weber, who in an interview with Renaud recently opened up about the trade that took him from the Nashville Predators to the Canadiens, will be honored at the Bell Center on the sidelines of a clash against the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 16.

His contract is still in effect and now belongs to the Utah club.
