Honestly, even if the Montreal Canadiens are still rebuilding, and we have to think about the positives to come in the future, the current start of the CH season is really depressing.
Indeed, the defeats aren’t even/anymore somewhat exciting to watch for the individual performances of the club’s young players, because no one is performing consistently.
Seriously, besides Lane Hutson, I can’t find any other reason to watch Habs games.
It may well be another season of this famous reconstruction for Martin St-Louis’ squad, we should still see progress or at least see the young players improve and become more consistent.
Unfortunately, this is by no means the case so far with 15 matches played.
The CH is not progressing compared to last season, and even seems to be regressing, while it is painful in each match for Martin St-Louis’ men.
Some saw the Canadian being in the mix or at least in “No Man’s Land” this season, but in the end, after 15 games, the CH is not even close to such expectations, as it finds itself in last place of the NHL.
The Habs are currently tied for last place with the famous San Jose Sharks, which is clearly not ideal, even if we look at it with the draft in mind.
At a certain point, yes, it’s good to have excellent draft picks, but the CH must progress and improve, because at the moment, it really seems that the players seem to accept defeat and live well with it as if it was something normal.
Obviously, at the moment, in addition to the Nashville Predators and the Philadelphia Flyers, we find in the bottom-7 of the NHL the five teams that were drafted in the top-5 last season.
No team has really progressed, which may seem like a relief for the Habs, but all the same, in the end, I find that seeing the team be worse than last season is a bad thing.
You’re not convinced that CH is worse than last season?
Well, to give you an idea, with yesterday’s 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs (who were playing a second game in two nights without Auston Matthews in the lineup), CH now has six straight losses, sequence that Martin St-Louis’ troop never suffered last season.
In short, there is clearly something wrong with the CH at the moment, especially for six games.
Cole Caufield (despite a good start to the season), Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky and Kirby Dach all seem neutral in each of their presence, although we do not see them involved.
Only Lane Hutson and Brendan Gallagher have represented positive and exciting elements for CH in recent matches.
Moreover, Gallagher is on a 38-goal streak with his seven goals in 15 games. Last season, he reached the plateau of seven goals after 41 games.

– With good reason.
– Please note.
– It would be phenomenal if he broke Gretzky’s record while scoring 50 goals this season.
– Amazing.
– Indeed.
– Wow. Very cool.
