Elections in departmental committees and regional leagues are subject to appeal between candidates. Decisive in view of the presidency of the FFT in a month

Appeals even before the vote! In the departmental committees and regional leagues, nothing is going well between the supporters of the outgoing president of the French Federation Gilles Moretton and those of his challenger Germain Roesch. In several territories, supporters of Roesch saw their candidacy called into question by supporters of Moretton for the same reason… the absence of a sentence – the same one! – in their profession of faith.

“The submission of a list is only admissible if it is accompanied by a profession of faith at the end of which the list undertakes in particular to implement federal policy (…)”, according to article 45 of the FFT, an article recently added to the regulations…

Judicial parade

“I didn’t think such maneuvers were possible in tennis! We didn’t write this sentence but something synonymous! » Jérémy Chardy gets carried away. Supported by Germain Roesch for the presidency of the FFT, the coach of Ugo Humbert – finalist of the last Masters 1000 at Bercy – is Nicolas Winograd’s running mate for the presidency of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques departmental tennis committee. The latter had to defend himself last week before the Federal Disputes Commission of the FFT and is awaiting its decision… barely 48 hours before the vote which is to be held this weekend. “This leaves little time to turn around but we are working, just in case, on the legal parade”, promises Alain Moreau, president of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine League and also support of Germain Roesch.

Patrice Brulez, outgoing president of the Hauts-de- League for seven years, is also the subject of an appeal, for the same reason, before this Commission. Heard last Tuesday, he is also awaiting the federal verdict one week before the election. “When I received my summons, it’s an understatement to say that I fell off my chair. The summons was sent 24 hours before the meeting of the disputes committee. “It gives you time to prepare your defense,” he quips.

The reason for the appeal is ridiculous.

Patrice Brulez, outgoing president of the Hauts-de-France League

“This disputes commission was set up by the General Assembly of the FFT, therefore support for the current president. She has no independence,” point out the two Aquitaine and northern presidents. “The reason for the appeal is all the more ridiculous as a League or a Departmental Committee must statutorily apply federal policy without which it is exposed to financial sanctions. What is the point of forcing one to write it as it is in one’s profession of faith? “, asks Patrice Brulez.

What could pass for an unimportant quarrel, however, turns out to be of first order since the departmental committees, like the regional leagues, have 50% of the votes, alongside the clubs, for the election to the presidency of the FFT which will be held in December.

Radio silence at the FFT

“Losing an election all right… but fairly!” » pleads Jérémy Chardy. Last week at Bercy, Ugo Humbert’s coach felt ostracized by the Federation. “Because of my candidacy, no one shook my hand and the decision not to have Ugo play at Central de Bercy has something to do with it,” tackle the one who is also the organizer of a tournament in .

Asked by Le Figaro on the number of appeals filed, all lists combined, before its Disputes Commission, and on the dates on which the judgments will be rendered, the French Tennis Federation has not responded.
