Traffic before the Olympic Games in Paris: the southern ring road completely saturated, the Georges-Pompidou route significantly slowed down

Just 45 days before the grand launch of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, work to accommodate all the events and the public continues in the heart of the city, bringing with it the closure of various roads in the capital. For several weeks, the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has been inviting Parisian and Ile-de-France motorists to “anticipate their trips, consult real-time road guidance applications, and avoid and bypass the center of Paris very widely”.

Since May 17, several nerve centers in the capital, such as the Alexandre III bridge and Avenue Gallieni, have been closed to traffic. As for the Trocadéro Champ de Mars sector, avenue des Nations-Unies between rue Le Nôtre and place de Varsovie and between place de Varsovie and avenue Albert de Mun is no longer accessible either to motorized vehicles or to pedestrians.

Finally, the entire Place de la Concorde is also completely closed to traffic, and in the Invalides sector, it is now impossible to use the Bleuets de France roundabout. In total, Olympics or not, around fifty streets are now closed to traffic in the capital.

The Bercy quay still saturated

Every morning, Le Parisien offers you an update on traffic in the streets of Paris, using applications that share in real time the state of road traffic across the region, such as the Google tool Traffic. On this Tuesday, June 11, at 7:45 a.m., you will have to be patient while taking the ring road to the south and east of Paris. The road axis is completely saturated between Porte de Bagnolet and up to Porte de Saint-Cloud. A small knot has also formed at the Chapel door.

Intramural, as usual at this early morning, the Quai de Bercy between the Accor Arena and the Quai de la Râpée is completely blocked. It is also difficult to travel on the Pont au Change which leads to the Île de la Cité. The Concorde Bridge is also experiencing significant slowdowns, particularly due to the closure of Place de la Concorde. The Georges-Pompidou route is congested due to the closed streets in the Trocadéro sector. As for Avenue Jean Jaurès and around the Gare de l’Est, they are similarly experiencing some traffic difficulties.

At 7:45 a.m., the Île-de-France Roads Directorate (Dirif) Sytadin website reported 231 km of traffic jams, a “usual” situation in the Paris region.
