Anderlecht can take a big step towards qualifying for the next stage of the Europa League, if they win this Thursday in Riga. David Hubert sets no limits in this competition.
This Wednesday in Riga, David Hubert and Killian Sardella spoke to the media before the Mauve & Blanc match against the RFS. A press conference held at Daugava Stadions, the stadium where the recent Latvian champion plays its European Cup matches.
Needless to say, there is a huge favorite in this match: the RSCA is so far flawless in the Europa League, and will want to continue this momentum. “The secret to our success is that all the players are involved, which is necessary with this very busy schedule,” begins David Hubert.
“The mentality of the group makes everyone feel equally involved in every match, on all three fronts. It doesn’t matter who is playing, the important thing is that everyone knows what they have to do. The motivation must be the same Tubize-Braine or in the Europa League”, proclaims the coach of RSC Anderlecht. And this even against a modest opponent like RFS.
Anderlecht’s Europa League ambition
“We respect every opponent. For example, we had a hard time against Dinamo Minsk. We can expect that here too at times. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Ludogorets, Real Sociedad or RFS; we know their opponents. strengths, which makes them dangerous, but also vulnerable,” continues Hubert. “Let’s also hope that they celebrated their title well and are a little tired (smile).”
The RFS indeed celebrated its second consecutive national title last weekend. “We expect them to be full of confidence and focused. They have qualities, with Ondoa in goal who played for us, Lipuscek in defense, speed on the flanks, a good scorer. It’s up to us to be professional” .
Because in the event of a victory at the Daugavas Stadions this Thursday, the RSCA would not only be almost assured of spending the winter warm in Europe, but could seriously think about a place in the top 8 and therefore a guaranteed round of 16. “The percentage chances of qualifying if we win tomorrow speak for themselves,” recognizes David Hubert.
“What is our ambition in this Europa League? To win it, of course,” he then says, only half joking. “The objective in any competition you take part in is to go as far as possible, and as far as possible is victory. But we don’t see that far. There have only been three matches, and they are behind us. The most important thing is the next match, and that is this Thursday against RFS.
