Cameroonian fighter Francis Ngannou, in an interview with L’Équipe, discusses his disagreements with Dana White, the boss of the UFC.
The Predator does it again. Now fighting in the PFL, where he shone for his big return to competition last October, Francis Ngannou spoke again about his resounding departure from the UFC. In an interview with L’Équipe, the Cameroonian champion has no leniency for Dana White, the big boss of the UFC.
“It’s the bitterest pill Dana has had to swallow in his life. He lost to a simple guy. He ruled over his empire, overpowered everyone. And I dared to stand up. (. ..) I was a free man, and Dana White the tyrant,” said Francis Ngannou, referring to the film 300in comments reported Monday, November 4.
Most money won in a single boxing match
At the PFL Riyadh on October 19, Francis Ngannou caused a sensation with his quick victory against Renan Ferreira. He had not fought in a cage for exactly 1,000 days and a victory against Frenchman Ciryl Gane. A year later, it was with the heavyweight belt that he left the UFC, amid major disagreement over his remuneration and that of his competitors. It was also a question for him of allowing fighters from the most powerful MMA organization to have personal sponsors, life insurance and a lawyer.
“I made my decision based on my principles. If I stick to my principles, I feel good at the end of the day. (…) In the UFC, I felt like of being slapped with money like a: ‘Take the money and shut up’, he said shortly after his contract ended.
In the podcast RMC Fighter ClubFrancis Ngannou also made it clear that his first boxing fight, against Tyson Fury in October 2023, had earned him much more money than his entire MMA career. “It didn’t take me two fights,” he whispered, while he also got into the ring to challenge Anthony Joshua.
