Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed his intention to discuss the future of midfielder Thomas Partey, recognizing the Ghana international’s vital role in the team.
At 31, Partey has enjoyed a resurgence this season, playing 799 minutes in the Premier League, more than in the entire 2023/24 campaign. The Ghanaian has made 13 appearances this season, scoring once and starting 12 matches.
Despite the criticism, Arteta praised Partey’s recent form and his ability to adapt, especially as his contract nears expiration next summer.
“The only thing we needed was for Thomas to be at the level we wanted”Arteta told the press on Friday. “He works hard and plays very well in different positions, adapting to different demands, and he is doing very well. He’s an important player for us.”Arteta continued, adding: “He is in a very good situation, and we will have these discussions [sur son avenir avec Arsenal] ».
While Arsenal had initially planned to let Partey finish his contract without an extension, his recent performances could make him reconsider.
Partey has also been linked with clubs like Barcelona and Juventus, but his experience could prove crucial to the squad’s depth in the 2025/26 season.
