Narvik in 2029 and Val Gardena in 2031!

The Congress of the International Ski Federation (FIS), which is being held in Reykjavik, awarded the 2029 World Championships this Tuesday evening to the Norwegian resort of Narvik. Those in 2031 will take place in Val Gardena in Italy. China will receive those for freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Tignes has won the World Handisport Alpine Skiing Championships for 2027

Val Gardena in 2031

And, for the first time, the FIS Council decided to immediately award the organization of the following World Championships, in 2031, to Val Gardena (Italy), theater of the World Cups in 1970, and usual stage in December of the Men’s World Cup. Soldeu’s candidacy in Andorra, 3^e station in contention, therefore still remains at the platform.

In the first round of voting, Narvik received 11 votes, compared to 8 in Val Gardena and 1 in Soldeu. In the second round, for 2031, Val Gardena won 14 to 6 against Soldeu.

As a reminder, the 2025 Worlds will take place in Saalbach (Austria before Crans-Montana (Switzerland) in 2027, notably to the detriment of Narvik.

Freestyle and snowboarding in China

For the other disciplines, only one candidate was in the running and therefore no suspense for the award: the Olympic station in 2022, Zhangjiakou (China) will host the freestyle ski and snowboard World Championships for the first time in 2029 (after Saint-Moritz in 2025 and Montafon in 2027).

Planica (Slovenia) will organize the Ski Flying World Championships in 2028.

A deadline for Lahti

Alone on the track for the 2029 Nordic Ski Worlds, the file of Lahti (Finland) was not yet ready. The FIS Council gave an additional period of 30 days. Trondheim will receive those of 2025 and Falun those of 2027.
