Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is still reportedly looking for a forward capable of playing in the top two lines.

He would even be ready to make a “Kirby Dach” or “Alex Newhook” trade as the draft approaches, according to what informant Pierre LeBrun from the site reports. The Athletic.

According to LeBrun, Hughes contacted the Carolina Hurricanes for additional information about Czech forward Martin Necas. He points out, however, that about half of the teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) have made the same type of call in Carolina.

In addition, the Canadian and the Anaheim Ducks have reportedly reestablished contact in the Trevor Zegras case. LeBrun, however, tempers expectations by mentioning that the CH staff does not necessarily intend to pursue the talented American attacker aggressively.

The site journalist Daily Faceoff Frank Seravalli had mentioned during the previous weekend that there were a lot of “points of friction” between the Californian organization and the 23-year-old young man and that an exchange would be desired by both camps.

And the 5e choice?

Could it be possible that CH decides to move back a few places in the first round of the repechage? This is a scenario that is increasingly possible, especially if most of the attackers targeted by the Habs are chosen with the first four selections.

According to rumors circulating throughout the NHL, the Habs have shown interest in forwards Cayden Lindstrom, Ivan Demidov, Tij Iginla and Beckett Sennecke.

However, Kent Hughes indicated that he could try to advance to the draft, if this transaction improves the team. However, he reiterated that it is more likely that the team maintains its selection rank and drafts a player.
