As part of the modification of the A13 tolls, soon to be transformed into “free flow” gantries with vehicle detection, new traffic modifications are expected on the motorway in June.

Tolls as you know them, on the A13, are soon over: in December 2024, they will be officially replaced by “free flow” gantries, allowing motorists to pass without slowing down or stopping and pay their dues online.

Started in May 2023, the project to transform the Paris-Normandy motorway into a free-flow toll continues.with the installation of four gantries at the level of the full-lane toll barrier and broadcaster no. 28 in Beuzeville“, announces Sanef (Society of Highways of the North and East of France) in a press release published this Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

To implement these new vehicle detection and identification gates, traffic will be restricted around Beuzeville (Eure) from June 5:

  • Night of June 5 to 6, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. : Closure of the entrance ramp to Paris and the exit ramp from Caen of broadcaster no. 28 Beuzeville.
  • Night of June 6 to 7 : Mandatory exit to broadcaster no. 28 Beuzeville from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the direction of traffic from Paris to Caen and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the direction of Caen to Paris.
  • June 17, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. : Closure of the entrance ramp towards Caen of broadcaster no. 28 in Beuzeville.
  • June 18, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. : Closure of the exit ramp from Paris for broadcaster no. 28 in Beuzeville.

Diversion routes will be put in place by Sanef teams, specifies the same press release.

The 14 toll sites to be transformed are now all under construction and 23 gantries out of 29 – not operational at this stage – will be in place by mid-June 2024“, adds Sanef.

Until their final implementation on the A13, payment habits remain the same: the toll “will remain payable via the current system, still operating until the free-flow switchover“, scheduled for the end of the year.

From December, motorists who are not subscribed to the Electronic Toll will be able to pay their bill directly online, within 72 hours.

On the A14 side, the system will be operational from mid-June. “The Paris-Normandy A13 – A14 motorway will be the first motorway axis in France, completely transformed into a free-flow toll“, details the Sanef press release.

The technology has already been deployed in other countries and tested on the A4 in Boulay (Moselle). It should make traffic flow more smoothly. A project “of scale“, which represents “a total investment of 120 million euros“, concludes the press release.
