A few weeks before the Olympic Games, where she will be one of the big favorites in the BMX Racing event, Zoé Claessens (23) is in great shape. The rider from Vaud won the European Championships on Saturday evening in Verona (Italy). She beat the Dutch Laura Smulders, world champion in 2018, and the Bernese Nadine Aeberhard (22 years old). Geneva’s Thalya Burford (21 years old) also qualified for the final where she achieved a good sixth place.

Zoé Claessens thus adds a new line to an already well-stocked list of achievements since she had already been crowned European champion in 2021 and 2023. To this, we must add two silver medals at the world championships in 2022 and there has two weeks in Rock Hill (United States) as well as a second place in the overall World Cup rankings in 2022.

The men also shone on the Italian track. Four Swiss representatives took part in the grand final and Cedric Butti (24) climbed onto the podium to win a bronze medal. This is the third continental success for the Thurgovian who won individual silver in 2022 and bronze in the team time trial in 2023.
