“In my head, I had worked my whole career to compete”: a Red Devil has revenge to take with the Euro – All football

Timothy Castagne is preparing to compete in the Euro as a starter. He hopes to have better luck than at Euro 2020.

It was already three years ago: the Belgium came out of a group stage made up of Russia, Denmark and Finland to then eliminate Portugal in the round of 16 but finally surrendered against Italy in the quarter.

Timothy Castagne had started the first match as a starter, but his competition only lasted 27 minutes, time to fracture his eye socket after a very tough duel against a Russian player. He explains to RTBF that he logically took the blame.

“It was difficult because, in my head, I had worked my whole career to compete in the Euro and for it to stop after twenty minutes like that, it was mentally complicated” he remembers.

But he was able to count on the support of the group: “I think it lasted one or two days and then I looked forward. I did the operation and the rehabilitation that went with it. My teammates m “had shown that they were behind me, their support was important”.

Barring another twist of fate, Timothy Castagne will approach this Euro in the shoes of a starter, after having played almost everything since the arrival of Domenico Tedesco. Will the possible absence of Arthur Theate mean he will play on the left side?
