In a retrospective of Moroccan participation in the 2024 Olympic Games, the Minister of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussadeclared in a presentation before the Committee on Education, Culture and Communication (House of Representatives) that high-level sporting performance cannot be achieved by wait-and-see or chance. “This requires rigorous and serious strategic planning, based on a new approach in the preparation of athletes.”

During the meeting of this commission, devoted to the evaluation of the participation of Moroccan athletes in Olympic Gamesthe minister added that it is essential to strengthen the policy of improving high-level sport, based on three fundamental pillars: training, good governance and sporting performance.

The minister explained that practical measures have been taken in the short, medium and long term to promote sport. In the short term, the Moroccan National Olympic Committee was asked (CNOM) and the sports federations concerned to prepare a complete and objective evaluation report on Moroccan participation.

In addition, the establishment of the National Commission for High Level Sportsprovided for by Law 30-09, as well as the appointment of a commission of experts, aim to establish an integrated and coherent strategy to develop high-level sport over the next four years.

The government official also mentioned the establishment of a system of objective contracts with national sports federations to develop their strategic development project with a view to the next Olympic Games.

In the medium term, the minister announced the establishment of a specific model for high-level sport, adapted to the Moroccan reality which builds on the achievements obtained while taking advantage of good practices and successful foreign models. A study was also launched using a selective method to identify sports disciplines likely to win medals in the field of sports competition. In addition, sports federations will benefit from support to develop high-level sport by rationalizing the resources allocated to them.

The ministry also invests in the training of high-level technical executives and promotes the good experiences developed in Morocco, notably the Mohammed VI Academy. Each sports federation will now be required to create a high-level academy, combining sport and studies.

These measures also aim to improve the system for detecting and guiding young talents from 2025, and to create and modernize specialized and integrated centers for high-level sporting excellence, with six centers planned by 2028.

In the long term, measures include promoting quality sports activities and physical education at school, establishing links between them and developing grassroots sport to enable more children and young people to practice sport and discover talents.

The minister also highlighted the importance of adopting a positive discrimination approach in educational programs for high-level athletes, as well as the creation of a strategic monitoring unit to better analyze the competitive environment and make decisions. anticipated in order to strengthen Moroccan sports diplomacy.
