Lausanne residents on a stopover in Graubünden – Lausanne HC

Barely back from their trip to Tampere, our Lions are stopping off this Friday at the Eisstadion Davos and will attempt a four in a row as part of the 12th day of the National League. The start of the meeting is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. The pre-match is presented to you by our main partner, Vaudoise assurances.

An efficient exponential defense

With the 4th defense in the National League (1.73 goals per match) and the highest total of goals conceded during the regular season in the Champions Hockey League (9 goals in 6 matches), the Lions are gradually regaining what was their great strength during the 2023-24 financial year: lethal collective defense. Indeed, more parameters easily explain the recent good success of the Vaudois in their own camp. With three shutouts in a row (NL and CHL) by Kevin Pasche et Anthony Kellerthe Lions have not conceded any goals since their poor performance on October 5 against the ZSC Lions. As the new main goalkeeper of the LHC, the former will not have waited long to confirm the expectations that have been placed on him with an excellent save percentage in the championship (93.06%).

Another relevant statistic of the best of our Lions in defense is that of shots saved before they reach the Lausanne cage. With an average of 15.55 blocks in 28 shots received, the Vaudois are effective in their defensive game system consisting of mainly cutting the pass/shot lines in their zone. As the standard bearer of this efficiency, David Sklenicka proves his playing intelligence by being the co-best blocker in the championship (29 blocked shots in 11 games). This is mainly how the boxplay organized by Peter Andersson is 3rd in National League.

These good defensive performances do not, however, make Lausanne forget their qualities in attack. Also third best attack in the championship (35 goals), teammates d’Antti Suomela have made significant progress in powerplay situations. The lack of solution at the start of the season in this exercise was greatly corrected by Geoff Ward and its staff, which allows our Lions to have a success of 28.57% in numerical superiority (8 goals in 28 opportunities).

A solid HC Davos

The training of Josh Holden is expected high in the National League standings. With a solid previous season and a squad reinforced by marquee additions like defender Julius Honka and the attacker Adam TambelliniHC Davos is having a good start to the season, despite a lack of consistency in the first matches. It was after a nightmarish trip to the SCL Tigers ice rink and a 7-0 defeat that the Graubünden reversed the tide by winning 5 of their 7 games.

Currently 6th in the National League standings with 17 points recorded in 11 matches, teammatesAndres Ambühl are ready to receive our Lions who have just returned from their trip to Tampere.
