Canada is the new leader of the Prague group (in place of the Czech Republic, which did not play on Sunday), at the World Championship. The Canadian selection won against Switzerland (3-2), notably with two goals and an assist from Dylan Cozens (Buffalo Sabres).

In the same group, Austria stole fourth place from Finland, dominating Norway (4-1), with a double from Peter Schneider. The Norwegians can no longer claim the quarter-finals. With Canada, Czech Republic and Switzerland already qualified, fourth place will be played out between Austria, Finland and Denmark.

The United States in the quarterfinals

In Ostrava, the United States crushed Kazakhstan (10-1). Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa Senators) scored a hat trick, while Matt Boldy (Minnesota Wild) was credited with six points and Johnny Gaudreau (Columbus Blue Jackets) with five. The US victory validated the French team’s retention in the elite. The United States is also in the quarterfinals, as Sweden has been since Saturday.

Finally Latvia beat Slovakia (3-2 tab). A goal from Peter Cehlarik, two minutes from the end of the match, allowed the Slovaks to lead 2-1. But, a few seconds later, Oskars Cibulskis equalized for the Latvians. The two teams, as well as Germany, at rest on Sunday, will compete for the last two tickets to the quarterfinals.
