FC Barcelona plans to repatriate Óscar Mingueza in January, a defender trained at La Masia and currently under contract with Celta Vigo until 2026. While Barça is looking for a right-back, the Mingueza option seems attractive for his playing philosophy and his versatility, especially in view of the 2024-2025 campaign. Although Celta wants to extend Mingueza’s contract, its president Marián Mouriño recognizes that the Catalan club benefits from advantageous financial options. Indeed, Barcelona has 50% of the rights to a future sale, which could allow the club to recover the player for an amount of around 9 to 10 million euros. “Mingueza is happy here and we are happy with him. What is needed is simply to sit down to discuss at the appropriate time,” explained Mouriño, while specifying that the defender’s contract termination clause is set at 20 million euros.

Mingueza doesn’t let anything show

On the Vigo side, sporting director Marco Garcés also clarified that Barcelona does not have a right of repurchase, but rather a right of first refusal in the event of a sale, which gives an advantage to the Blaugrana club in the event of negotiation. However, Celta’s plans differ, and the Galician club wants to keep Mingueza in the long term. As for the player, he is currently focusing on his season with Celta and seems determined to achieve good performances on an individual and collective level. “I know what I want, and for the moment, it is to be here and have a very good season at Celta,” he confided, leaving for the moment the possibility of a return to Barça.
