Beaten by Tomas Machac this Saturday in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters 1000 and qualified for his eighth final in 2024, Jannik Sinner is now guaranteed to finish in first place in the world.
“It’s incredible. Being number 1 is something you dream of as a child. Ending the year in first place is a different and special feeling. But it happened during the tournament. So I don’t even think about it. I know that tomorrow (Sunday) will be an important day, the final. But it means a lot to me. This is something I couldn’t accomplish without the fans, my family and my friends. It’s a credit to my team.”
In the final on Sunday, he will meet Novak Djokovic for an eighth duel or Taylor Fritz for a rematch of the US Open final.
