There was no longer much suspense but it is now official: PSV Eindhoven was crowned champion of the Netherlands for the 25th time in its history after its victory against Sparta Rotterdam (4-2), this Sunday 5 May, during the 32nd day of the Eredivisie. A success acquired thanks to achievements by Saïd Bakari against his camp, Johan Bakayoko, Olivier Boscagsli and Jordan Teze.

107 goals scored and only one defeat

There is no debate about this championship title as Peter Bosz’s players have soared through their season. After 32 days, PSV has an impressive record of 87 points, or 28 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat, conceded against NEC Nijmegen (3-1) on March 30. The club is also the best attack (107 goals) and the best defense (19).

The Dutchman Luuk De Jong was one of the major players in this title. He is currently joint top scorer in the championship alongside Vangelis Pavlidis (AZ Alkmaar) with 27 goals but also the best passer with 14 goals. In the Champions League, the club’s journey ended in the round of 16 against Dortmund (1-1; 3-1) after coming out second in their group behind Arsenal but ahead of RC Lens and Sevilla.

After four second places in a row, this is Eindhoven’s first league title since 2018. Last year, it was Feyenoord Rotterdam who lifted the trophy. With this 25th title, however, PSV still remains far from Ajax Amsterdam, winner of 36 championships, a record.
