The impressive series of invincibility of AF Biars Bretenoux came to an end this Saturday evening. After eleven matches without defeat and twenty-five points taken out of thirty-three possible in its Regional 1 championship, the Biarnais, deprived this Saturday evening of four players (three suspended players and one injured player) lost at home to L Union Saint-Jean with a score of one goal to zero.
As expected, this match against a team from L’Union Saint-Jean which is fighting to remain in Regional 1 and which was three points behind the first non-relegation team before this meeting, was closed. Unlike the first leg (which ended in a 3-2 victory for the Lotois at the end of a match full of twists and turns, a match which had launched the Lotois’ good series), this meeting this Saturday evening counting for the twentieth day of the championship, did not offer a lot of chances.
The first forty-five minutes of the meeting had set the tone. The two teams, well in place defensively, did not allow the opponent to bring danger to the opposing goal and it is very logical that the break was reached with this score of zero and zero.
The second period offered an identical appearance between two formations which worked to stem the opposing offensive attempts. In this match which could have gone one way or the other, it was finally a quarter of an hour from the end that the visitors found the net for the only goal of this match. After a good overflow, the ball was taken in the area by a Haut Garonnais player who deceived the Lotois goalkeeper. In the last minutes of the match, the AF Biars Bretenoux players tried to come back to score but the visitors managed to maintain their goal lead until the end.
This narrow defeat does not prevent the Biarnais from being assured of remaining in Regional 1 following Lavaur’s draw against Tarbes (0 to 0). With seven points ahead of the first relegation two days from the end, the AFBB team can no longer be joined in the standings and will play in the regional elite next season.
