Declan Rice and Rodri were beaten out by Phil Foden for the English Journalists’ Footballer of the Year award. The Manchester City midfielder succeeds Erling Haaland.

With 42% of the votes, the 23-year-old English midfielder came in first ahead of his compatriot Declan Rice (Arsenal) and his teammate Rodri (Manchester City). Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Cole Palmer (Chelsea) were also in the running.
“It’s a huge honour. I’m very happy to receive this award, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my partners. We have a special group at City and I feel privileged to be part of it. part I want to thank all my teammates as well as Pep (Guardiola). I strive to become a better player every day,” responded Foden.
With already 16 goals and 7 assists in 31 Premier League matches, he has reached another milestone and is having his best season in statistical terms with the Skyblues, who are currently fighting to win the Premier League title (one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand).
The first Englishman to win this prize since Jordan Henderson in 2020, he succeeds Erling Haaland. Manchester City was also in the spotlight among the women. Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw was named player of the year.
