Unlike its female counterpart, the French men’s 3×3 basketball team is still chasing its ticket to Paris. This week, the Blues will try to obtain their place for Paris 2024 during the Utsunomiya Olympic Qualifying Tournament (UOQT2), in Japan.
Placed in pool 2, the French, currently sixth in the world rankings, will play three matches in the first round: against Egypt (12:20 p.m.), Friday, then against Mongolia (9:40 a.m.) and against Japan (1:35 p.m.), Saturday . He will need to finish in one of the first two places to reach the final four, which will be played on Sunday.
So far, only four nations have qualified for the Olympics: the top three in the world rankings as of November 1, namely Serbia, the United States and China, and the winner of the Hong Kong TQO, Latvia. An additional place will be distributed to Utsunomiya. If France fails to win it, it will be transferred to a last chance TQO in Debrecen, Hungary, at the end of May.
The Utsunomiya Olympic Qualification Tournament will take place from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5. France’s matches against Egypt (Friday, 12:20 p.m.), Mongolia (Saturday, 9:40 a.m.) and Japan (Saturday, 1:35 p.m.) will be broadcast on the L’Équipe channel.
