And one more qualifier for the men’s football tournament at the Paris Olympics. By beating Indonesia 2-1, Iraq is the 15th and penultimate country to win its ticket to the French stadiums which will host the competition. A success which has an impact… on the future of the Blues.
Indeed, the last sesame will be played on May 9 in Clairefontaine (Yvelines) in a play-off between Indonesia and Guinea. And the winner will take place in Group A of the Games alongside the United States, New Zealand and Thierry Henry’s players.
The French already know the location and date of their matches during the group stage. On July 24, they will face the Americans at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille, at 9 p.m.
Their second match of the Olympics will take place on July 27, against Guinea or Indonesia in Nice, still at 9 p.m. Finally, Thierry Henry and his team will return to Marseille on July 30 (7 p.m.) to challenge the New Zealanders.
If they finish among the first two in their group and therefore qualify for the quarter-finals, the Blues will face a bigger challenge: it will be one of the first two of group B made up of Argentina, Morocco, Ukraine and, therefore, Iraq which qualified this Thursday.
Japan and Uzbekistan also qualified on Monday.
