MLB: The Mets and the Braves play a doubleheader that will complete the series portrait

The eyes of the baseball universe will be on Atlanta on Monday, where a doubleheader between the Braves and the New York Mets will have a monster at stake that will decide the last two teams that advance to the fall dance.

These two meetings were moved to Monday due to Hurricane Helene, which will allow for a dramatic end to the season.

In addition to the Mets and Braves, the Arizona Diamondbacks can still hope to sneak into the playoffs, but they no longer have their destiny in their hands.

The possibilities are simple: if the Mets and the Braves separate the honors of the two games on Monday, they will be the two teams qualified to continue their season.

If either team is swept, the Diamondbacks will slide into the playoffs in place of the losing team. This means that once the first duel is over, Arizona will favor the winning team.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres are the four teams that have already secured their ticket to the Nationals.

The Brewers and Padres will each host a “Wild Card” series with three games in three nights between Tuesday and Thursday. The divisional series will then get underway on Saturday.

If the Mets and Braves each win a game on Monday, Atlanta will get the No. 2 draft team and face the Padres, while the Mets will face the Brewers.

In the case of a sweep, the winning team will have the second place drafted team, while the Diamondbacks will be entitled to the clash against the Brewers.

This season, the Braves have won six of 11 meetings against the Mets, including the last three.

Tylor Megill will be the Mets’ starter for Game 1 according to MLB sources. If they lose, they risk sending the excellent Luis Severino for the second match. In the event of a victory, Severino risks being inactive in Game 2, to retain his services for the first playoff game.

For the Braves, Spencer Schwellenbach will have the mandate to lead the Braves to victory in the first duel. If they need his help, the Braves will send Chris Sale into the fray for the second matchup.
