Quebecer Samuel Blais failed to secure a position with the Vancouver Canucks.

Blais was released by the Vancouver Canucks on Monday afternoon, having attended the team’s camp with a professional tryout under his belt. He played four preparatory matches, distributing more than ten hits.

The Montmagny native only collected seven points in 53 games last season, his second since his return to the St. Louis Blues.

Selected in the sixth round by the Blues in 2014, Blais has totaled 27 goals and 71 points in 257 games in the Bettman circuit.

Blais should therefore play with the Abbotsford Canucks this season, with whom he had accepted a contract at the same time as his professional trial.

Oilers release Hoffman

The Edmonton Oilers have released former Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman from his professional tryout.

The 34-year-old appeared in four preseason games with the Stanley Cup finalists, scoring once and recording three assists, while posting a -2 rating.

Hoffman spent last season with the San Jose Sharks, scoring 10 goals and 13 assists in 66 games.

He had played the two previous campaigns with CH, scoring 29 goals and obtaining 40 assists in 134 games.

Hoffman has 228 goals and 259 assists in 745 games with the Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, Blues, Canadiens and Sharks.
