The seven-time Formula 1 world champion said he had suffered from depression since he was 13. He explains the reason for this state.

Lewis Hamilton told the Sunday Times: “When I was 20, I had some really difficult phases. I mean, I’ve struggled with mental health throughout my life. I had depression from a very young age, when I was 13. I think it was the pressure of racing and the struggles at school. Bullying. I had no one to talk to.”

Hamilton, the child of mixed-race parents, still says he was the victim of racism when he was growing up in Stevenage (east of England). To cope and after a period of introspection during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, he started getting up at 5 a.m. to meditate before going for a run. “ At first I had trouble calming my mind “, he again declared to the tabloid. “But it’s a very good way to get in touch with myself, my inner feelings, to understand what I can do.” Asked if he had ever seen a therapist, Hamilton admitted: “I talked to a woman years ago, but it didn’t really help me. I would like to find someone today.”
