The offer of a contract extension for Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour is no longer on the table, which could jeopardize his future with the team.

At least that’s what TSN journalist Darren Dreger reported on Tuesday. Coming into the final year of his pact as driver of the Carolina Hurricanes, Brind’Amour has still not signed a contract extension.

However, Raleigh team owner Tom Dundon mentioned the daily’s Luke DeCock to the Observer Raleigh News & Observer that general manager Don Waddell continued to work on this file. According to Chip Alexander, from the same newspaper, the CEO says he is “very confident” about the future.

Brind’Amour has worked in the Hurricanes organization since hanging up his skates in 2010. He has been at the helm of the team for six years and has reached the playoffs in each of his seasons. This year, Carolina had 52 wins in the regular season and eliminated the New York Islanders in five games in the first round of the playoffs.

The 53-year-old won the Jack Adams Trophy awarded to the outstanding head coach at the end of the 2020-2021 season. During his playing career, Brind’Amour was captain of the Hurricanes, wearing the colors of this team for ten seasons. He led his team to the Stanley Cup in 2006.
