South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, unexpected winner last year, defends her title against the ambitious Dutchwoman, Demi Vollering. The Swiss will play the role of referee.

The second women’s Tour de Romandie, which begins this Friday in Yverdon, promises an intense duel for victory. South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, unexpected winner last year, will defend her title against the ambitious Dutchwoman, Demi Vollering.

The best Swiss women of the moment, Marlen Reusser, Elise Chabbey, Petra Stiasny and Jolanda Neff will be present to referee the debates, and even more.

Ashley Moolman-Pasio (37 years old) did not rest on her laurels, she certainly has not had a major victory since her coronation last year, but her sixth place in the Tour de proves that she is always competitive in stage races.

She will have a lot to do to retain her title against Demi Vollering (26 years old), perhaps the best rider of the 2023 season. To her triumph at the Tour de France, the most Swiss of the Dutch – she lives in Thalwil – added victories in Liège – Bastogne – Liège, the Amstel Gold Race, the Flèche Wallonne and the Strade Bianche. She won the silver medal again during the road race at the World Championships in Glasgow.

Regional of the event, Elise Chabbey (30 years old) arrives in good shape as evidenced by her conquest of the mountain jersey on the recent Tour of Scandinavia. A feat that she had already achieved in June on the Tour de Suisse. The Genevan is still looking for this great success since her victory during the 1st stage of the Tour de Suisse in 2021.

The first stage will consist of a loop race around Yverdon. The next day, place in the mountains between Romont and Torgon with 2021 m of altitude difference with the crossing of the Col des Mosses and the final climb towards the Valais resort.

The race will end on Sunday September 17 between the Geneva commune of Vernier and Nyon with a loop in the Vaud countryside.

All stages will be broadcast live on RTS.
