Feyenoord’s Dutch coach Arne Slot confirmed on Thursday April 25 that his club was in “negotiations” with Liverpool to see him succeed Jürgen Klopp on the bench of the English club and added that he was ” confident “ as to their outcome.

“The only thing I can say is that the clubs are in negotiations,” he told ESPN. “It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see if the clubs can reach an agreement.”he added, but “I’m confident about that.”

“The clubs must do their job, and I am waiting”

According to ESPNone of the subjects under negotiation concerns the compensation that the Dutch club will receive, which would demand around 10.5 million euros in exchange for the transfer of its coach, aged 45. “The clubs have to do their job, and I’m waiting. This will be much clearer in the coming days,” added Slot.

The German Jürgen Klopp, in office since 2015, announced at the end of January that he would leave his position as head of Liverpool at the end of the season, saying he “running out of energy”. Bayer Leverkusen coach, Spaniard Xabi Alonso, was the favorite to succeed him but preferred to extend with the German club after winning the German championship this season.

The name of Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim was also mentioned but it is that of Slot who now holds the lead. Arne Slot arrived at Feyenoord in 2021 after coaching another Dutch Championship side, AZ Alkmaar.
