“Al-Nassr club has officially decided to end its contractual relationship with coach Luis Castro,” the club of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, 39, whose contract is due to expire next year, announced on X.

“Everyone at Al-Nassr would like to thank Luis and his team for their dedicated work over the last 14 months, and wish them the best for the future,” the club added.

Cristiano Ronaldo heading into his final season in Saudi Arabia: to get revenge on Neymar or leave without glory

Luis Castro, 63, is the third coach to leave the team since the arrival of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo in early 2023 on a deal worth an estimated €400 million.

Frenchman Rudi Garcia left the club in April 2023, briefly replaced by Croatian Dinko Jelicic before Luis Castro was appointed in July 2023.

A true emblem of the spectacular development of the Saudi league, the highly decorated Ronaldo failed to win the Saudi league, his only trophy so far being last year’s Arab Club Champions Cup.

Al-Nassr, who finished a distant second in the last season of the Saudi Pro League, have drawn two of their three games at the start of the new season.

The Gulf oil monarchy has been known for spending huge sums of money over the past two years to attract players such as Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mané, Marcelo Brozovic, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves, among others.
